Taylor’s “dig” at Harry during her performance. Personally, I’m of the belief that Swizzle doesn’t mind poking fun at herself, and that’s what the British accent was about. After all, there have been so many rumours swirling around since the demise of Haylor, and I think it was her way of being like “dudes, stop with the stories, we’re not reconciling”.
Am I really surprised that she used her performance to send a message? Nope. After all, when she performed Mean (last year?), she did change the words to “someday I’ll be singing this at the Grammys”. And years ago, when the Joe Jonas thing was still fresh, I think her performance of White Horse at the AMAs (I think) was directed at him. The little fist pump she did at the line “I’m gonna find someone someday who might actually treat me well” just sorta seemed to be a dig. That’s my opinion though. So no, I’m not surprised she would direct something at Harry/the world in a performance.
I mean, look, I might come off as biased because everyone knows I am a huge fan of the Swift - BUT, I have said this before, I don’t think she is 100% sunshine and roses. I think she has the capacity to be a total fem-douche, just like the rest of us. But I don’t think she would choose to reveal her douchebag side in front of people that she admires and respects, and in front of her fans. I think it was all in fun, not a malicious move on her part. But that’s my opinion.
And even if she did, who gives a shit? She’s allowed to do whatever she wants during her own performances.Also, while I’m on my soapbox, can I just address something else that really gives me the shits? How people ALWAYS feel the need to bring up that Taylor writes about her breakups/relationships/love. Ummm, well, she’s not the only artist in the world who does that, and yet, no one else gets picked on for it. There’s never any mention of the songs she’s written for her family or friends. You write what you know and you write what inspires you. But she is not the only person who does that, and I wish there would be less focus on “uh-oh, Taylor Swift broke up with someone, better get ready for a revenge song” and more focus on “wow, this song is lyrically very beautiful”. On Red, my personal favourite song is All Too Well, and not because of who it’s written about, but because some of the lines in that song are absolutely amazing (eg. “You call me up again just to break me like a promise, so casually cruel in the name of being honest”). I don’t know, I just think we should draw less attention to the fact she writes about ex-boyfriends (seeing as that’s not exactly a groundbreaking topic, she didn’t invent that as a songwriting genre), and focus on the fact that she puts together words in a beautiful way and is enormously talented in that regard.
And before anyone hates me on, I’m not anti-One Direction at all. I am in fact, unashamedly pro-One Direction. But I’m also 26 years old, so… you know. There’s that.
